THE CYCLING REVOLUTION

Introduction
The UK’s premier track cycling event - attracting over 15,000 dedicated fans every season and now entering its sixth year, Revolution has entered the vernacular of the British cycling fraternity.

A family night out designed, since its conception, to deliver high octane fun, from the world’s best cyclists with a strong presence from the UK’s many World, Olympic and Commonwealth Champions including Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Victoria Pendleton and Nicole Cooke.

The only event of its type in this country, the only event to offer ‘Future Stars’ the opportunity to race against their senior counterparts, the only event that has ever pulled major crowds back into the sport.

With a bright future and a ground breaking past Revolution has truly lived up to its name.

The Concept
Revolution was created in 2003 by Face Partnership and the Manchester Velodrome to provide a new style of cycling event in the UK, a style that would increase spectator appeal and change the way people think about the sport.

The event is all about entertainment with an action packed race programme delivering an exciting blend of entertainment and performance sport. Each event includes feature races ranging from revenge matches to pro celebrity events. The racing is fast and the atmosphere is electrifying with non stop action, music and other attractions providing a night at the races for cycling and non-cycling fans alike.

Over the last five seasons Revolution has played host to many of the world’s top road pros such as Gilberto Simoni, Yaroslav Popovych, David Millar and Brad McGee, welcomed back to action past cycling heroes including Franco Ballerini, Rolf Sorensen, Andrea Tafi and Graeme Obree and featured top sports celebrities such as Martin Johnson, Geoff Thomas and Matthew Pinsent.

With this format and star quality Revolution has established a world class reputation attracting riders and spectators from across the globe.

Youth Development
Whilst making sure the sport has spectator appeal is crucial for its growth it is also crucial to develop the stars of the future. Revolution provides the perfect competitive arena for the development of our young talent in the Future Stars Competition, sponsored by DHL.

The success of the Future Stars programme is highlighted by Steven Burke. Back in 2005, Steven won the Revolution Future Stars competition, narrowly beating Andy Tennant in one of the most exciting finals the competition has seen. After moving through the elite ranks at Revolution Steven now holds that truly elite position of being an Olympic medal winner, taking bronze in the individual pursuit at the Beijing Olympics this year.

The Future
The profile of cycling in the UK is growing each year. The British Cycling team won 8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics, making cycling the Team GB’s most successful Olympic sport.

This success has created a cycling frenzy in the UK and has boosted the profile of Revolution with each event in season 6 expected to sell out in advance. With a loyal fan base and a fast developing new audience the Revolution will continue to grow as we head towards London 2012.

And the Revolution is not just confined to the UK with the event now firmly established in Australia and plans underway to develop a global series to include Europe and USA.
