ROLLAPALUZA RECORD BROKEN
22 February 2009

Since Chris Hoy and Craig Maclean set the two fastest times ever for 500 metres on the Rollapaluza rigs at the Salford Nocturne Rollapaluza have been steadily encourgaing the UK's top sprinters to try their unique sport. At Revolution 24 Matt Crampton, now a major star of the British Cycling sprint team, thought he'd attempt to beat Craig's record of 18.94 seconds.

He didn't disappoint, at the end of the night after the track racing had finished and in front of small but noisy crowd Matt smashed the previous best time of 18.94 seconds for 500m held by Craig Maclean and produced an unbelievable 17.90 seconds! a clear second faster, that's a huge margin over this distance.

All Rollapaluza racers compete on identical Condor track bikes and Matt's record ride equates to 100.6kph or 62.8mph with an average cadence of 254rpm. If you know about bikes you'll realise that this is pretty amazing on an 85 inch gear (44 x 14) with 170mm cranks.

ROLLAPALUZA AT REVOLUTION 24

Once again over 125 keen members of the public took part in Rollapaluza at Revolution.

It was a family affair in the girl's and boys event with the Kerfoot-Robsons Dylan and Seren winning the Boys and Girls events.

For the adults, Manchester Track "B" track league racer Tony DeLeon became ony the 12th person in the last seven years to set a time under 20 seconds on the Rollapaluza rigs to take the win and he beat some top competition with previous Rollapaluza at Revolution winner Matt Rotherham taking second, followed by Josh Hargreaves and European masters sprint champion Lee Povey and fourth.

Rollapaluza were showcasing their new digital timing system which adds split second timing to the event and also means spectators as far away as the top of the track banking could clearly see the roller-race action.

Rollapaluza at Revolution is presented by Condor Cycles.
