MEDIA ROUND-UP: VOS AND ARMITSTEAD LIGHT UP REVOLUTION ROUND 2

December 4th 2012

For Revolution Series Round 2, we brought double Olympic champion Marianne Vos to the National Cycling Centre in Manchester for a showdown with Olympic Road Race rival Lizzie Armitstead.

Vos and Armitstead fought an epic battle on the roads of London and Surrey at the 2012 Olympics in July, Vos winning gold and Armitstead silver in the Women's Road Race.

Revolution Round 2 sold out months in advance and there was plenty of interest in both the mainstream and cycling media. Here are some of the best bits:

Lizzie Armitstead and Marianne Vos united in fighting prejudice (Donald McRae, Guardian)

"After the fall of Lance Armstrong, and the continuing erosion of credibility around the UCI's governance of cycling, it feels cleansing to step into the last month of another tumultuous year with two different riders."

Marianne Vos: Is She the World's Greatest Cyclist? (Ben Dirs, BBC Sport)

"Perhaps the most versatile sportsperson, male or female, in the world, Vos is a two-time Olympic champion - once on the track, once on the road - a two-time world champion on the track, a two-time world champion on the road, a two-time winner of the Giro d'Italia Femminile and a five-time world champion in cyclo-cross."

Tale of the tape: Lizzie Armitstead v Marianne Vos (Sport Magazine)

"There's definitely a rivalry between me and Marianne ... she beat me in London, so I guess it would be nice to get one back on her in Manchester."
